your lips to mine

you hold onto fire because it makes you hot. things get carried away. like ashes, like ideas. they swirl around and chase each other. like lovers, like police and thieves. there’s nothing you could steal from me, because it’s already yours. it is written in the ink that flows through your body and runs in my blood. blotter acid that gets passed around, trees that take root. roots that take years to rise to the surface and grab the light. suns that fade, daughters that glow. sons that rise and lovers that go. i am the heart of things that break, that hide between the lines. i am the words that take shape and pass from your lips to mine.
