all of the material contained within this site is work in progress. it includes excerpts from the first draft of at least two books of nonfiction, one novel, several volumes of poetry and essays & narratives of various format. each post/piece is timestamped with the date and time that i originally wrote the material and posted it (mostly through facebook). most of the material was written in what i have come to loosely regard as disembodied poetics. if there is a strict form of this, that is not what i practice. for me, it means “real-time writing” with a minimal amount of editing, initially at least. i first heard the term when i was nineteen. i was on a cross country road trip and stopped in boulder to visit a friend. he was attending a summer writing program called “the jack kerouac school of disembodied poetics”. i visited the campus, a college run by tibetan monks, sawand was fortunate enough to meet allen ginsberg who ran the writing program. the idea of disembodied poetics has stuck with me ever since, as has the gaze of mr. ginsberg.

my informal process is to find a memory/idea and write about it as quickly as i can, before it hits the air and oxygenates, in an attempt to retain the spontaneity and true nature of the origin of the thought. i also liken it to pulling a string out of a bedspread, just to see how far it will go until it breaks off. anyone who’s ever experienced a modicum of ocd will identify with what i mean. the rest of you can take it in through osmosis.

daily posts/content (blogs) will be provided on the “front page” along with a sampling of different work from the past year. the rest of the site will provide excerpts from different pieces, to provide a flavor of the various material i am working on. the point of the site is to not only share the material, but to share in the process of creating it. the real-time sharing and feedback that goes along with my insane process has served me well over the last year. i see it as an indispensable part of continuing the evolution and completion of each of the pieces.

this space is a collaboration tool to garner feedback and advice from you: fellow writers, artists and readers. if nothing else, hearing where and how people react certainly informs a writer about how his communication is succeeding or failing. i am truly lucky to have had such a magnificent group of collaborators and conspirators and to welcoming more. hopefully this will serve to evolve and foster those relationships and grow new ones. eventually there will be a home on the site for other artists to contribute and share their work in an interactive and collaborative manner. writers, poets, painters, photographers, filmmakers, musicians and more will be able to cross pollinate their material and share it with a broad, yet refined, audience.

look forward to feeling you read my thoughts and hope you enjoy…
